Play on "holometabolism", which describes insects that have four stages of life: embryo/egg, larva, pupa, and finally imago/adult. In the original photo you can sort of see a (fake) bird in the cage, and it's supposed to be like the octopus' cocoon.

I probably should get better at Photoshop so I don't have to come up with weird stories to distract you from the fact I just couldn't remove it from the background xD
